The guidelines include a thorough introduction about HIV. The NUJ recommends finding out more information on the HIV epidemic in the particular country or region which is being reported on and in which the report will be read. For example, in sub-Saharan Africa the epidemic began mainly through heterosexual sex and HIV continues to be transmitted mainly heterosexually.
